The State Of Grocery Substitutions

  We analysed a years worth of tweets aimed at four major supermarkets (Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, and Morrisons) and recorded every tweet where a customer complained about an inappropriate substitute they received. Christmas 2023 December is the worst month of the year for  supermarket substitutions , accounting for 20% of all complaints. And 11% of total complaints come from just 4 days, the 22nd, 23rd, 24th and 25th of December. In 2023, the 23rd of December was the worst day to receive a Christmas shop, with deliveries  12 times  more likely to contain an unacceptable substitute than the rest of the year. A Year Of Grocery Substitutions While December stands out as the worst month for  grocery substitutes , the rest of the winter months also see higher complaints compared to the summer months.

Eggflation in 2025: Why are eggs so expensive in the USA?

  The price of eggs has been steadily increasing from $1.46 per dozen in January 2020 all the way to $7.09 per dozen in January 2025. Take a look at this graph to better visualize the price jump. The price of eggs has actually been steadily increasing whether or not you’ve been able to feel it. 2020 to 2021 saw about a 10% increase in average prices and 2021 to 2022 had a more dramatic increase of about 70% within this period!  The price movement between 2022 to 2023 actually showed a slight 2% decrease in price but this was short lived as the prices increased by 17% in 2023 to 2024. The real kicker here is the price difference between 2024 and the start of 2025. This period showed a whopping 124% increase in price! If you take a look at the price difference between 2020 and 2025, there has been about a 370% increase in price. That means for the price of a dozen eggs today, you could have bought about 3 dozen eggs back in 2020.  The question is how did we get to this poin...
